La Jolla, CA - I received an email from a member of the Vice President’s office in Liberia on Thursday. Arthur said they were monitoring what was happening in Charleston, South Carolina and praying for all affected and for America. Liberians and Liberia playing for Americans and America. We have so much to learn from Liberians. The members of 16 different tribes, the people of 15 different counties all came together to defeat Ebola and have kept Liberia Ebola free since May 9th. Holding hands together they stopped an unprecedented crisis which is still in place in Sierra Leone and Guinea.
When are we in America going to hold hands together as one human family? Quoting from today’s New York Times newspaper:
If current trends continue, one in three black men are expected to spend time in prison at some point in their lives. The Great Recession wiped out twice as much black wealth as it did white, and the raw numbers are even more stark: Post-recession median household wealth for a white family in 2014 was almost $142,000, down from $192,500. The median wealth for black households has fallen to $11,000 from $19,200. There are 1.5 million black men “missing” in America, because they are either dead of in prison.
There is something so wrong with this reality.
