Letters for Liberia: One Global Family

La Jolla, CA - I started today as I do every Tuesday when I am not in Liberia.  At 7:00AM here in California I answer a Skype request from Anna and say hello to my dear Liberian team.  Soon we ask our partners at Edify to join us.  We begin a weekly global business meeting, all together thanks to Skype.

Before we began today’s agenda, our Foundation for Women Liberia COO David brought up the recent terrorist attacks in the Ivory Coast and then yesterday in Mali.  He mentioned that there is a heightened security awareness now in West Africa; it is all very close to home now.  We offered a pray for peace in the world, not knowing at that moment terrorists were striking again – this time in the heart of Brussels, the subway system and the airport.  So many dead.
Perhaps that is why I have had such a broken heart all day today, before hearing the news.  I know the Brussels Airport so well, having just been there once again 22 days ago.  It is the gateway to Liberia/Africa and the only way after so many airlines have ceased operating in West Africa due to Ebola.  And I know the people of Brussels – the crew that takes me and all others in and out of Liberia stays at my hotel home, the RLJ Kendeja.  We have become friends.  My heart is broken for them and all in Belgium.  Prayers for peace.

It is undoubtedly an unprecedented time of change.  And the change is touching each and every one of us.  There is no hiding that we are one human family any longer.  We are all wondering what is happening.  And more than ever before we must turn to love and trust and away from fear and worry.  I so believe that our thoughts create our reality, and that we are at choice every moment – love or fear.  This is showing up in every aspect of my life – from my biological family to our global human family.

I wrote the following last evening after returning home from my A Course in Miracleswomen’s group:

We are One
I am just home from another wonderful evening with my A Course in Miracles circle.  We have been gathering every Monday evening since the first Monday in January 2013, just after the end of the Mayan calendar on December 21, 2012.  Today is exactly three years and four months since that remarkable day, and my world continues to recalibrate…

I am comforted by words from A Course in Miracles and Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course:
Tonight’s lesson:  I am as God created me.  This single thought, held firmly in the mind, would save the world.
The lesson a few days ago:  The light has come.  I have forgiven the world.

All that’s required is to develop the understanding that “nothing really matters” as this experience is an illusion.

We are completely in the care of God through the presence of the Holy Spirit in every situation.  Joy is our prerogative.

Being here, now, is all there is.  Past experiences are gone forever.

It’s all in the mind…  Simply experience each moment with the help and love of the Holy Spirit.  Let that heart feel for us.  Let that voice speak for us.

…we can choose to feel love, regardless of our current feelings, if we’ve made the decision to shift our perception.  No experience controls our feelings.

Knowing and trusting that we are One with the Spirit is very helpful, however infrequently we can do it.
Praying I can practice knowing we are One more often than not…

Please join me in realizing that we are one human family, that there is not “us and them” – that the fear that is rampant in the political conversation in America now is driving fear everywhere on the planet…  please join me in turning to forgiveness, compassion, peace…  please see these recent events and conversations as a tremendous cry for help and healing…

With great love for all of God’s children ~ Deborah
