Letters for Liberia

La Jolla, CA - I am preparing to return to Liberia in a few days.  I went to Costco yesterday and stocked up on much to bring with me – from toothbrushes and toothpaste to shoes and pants and dresses and swimsuits to electronics.  Joy!  If members of our human family in Liberia could have spent the time yesterday with me in Costco, they would have been completely overwhelmed.  OMG the contrast between our realities…
Liberia is in the midst of a tremendous corruption scandal touching the highest levels of government, yet again.  We here in America are in the midst of the most divisive hate-filled political time imaginable.  It all seems overwhelming and awful.  It is, and maybe it is all a gift from God.  Maybe it is time for all the darkness in our world to come up to the surface, to come to the light, to come to healing…  Maybe this is the darkest time before the light shifts all of us as one human family into a new way of being, to a realization that we are all one human family, that there is no “us and them” but rather always WE.

This has been my knowing my entire life.  We are one human family.  We are all in this together.  Could it be that finally the extremes have become so extreme that there is no longer an option to not wake up, no longer an option to only pay attention to our individual realities?  Is everything that is happening in our world now necessary for us to collectively say NO MORE to hate and prejudice and isolation and war and starvation and poverty and global health epidemics and…

I have only one treasured piece of jewelry, a pearl ring which has been part of my life for almost two decades now.  The pearl is a reminder to me that beauty grows larger and more beautiful with pain, as the pearl grows larger with irritation.  I have this constant reminder on a finger on my right hand always – I am believing the present pain is making larger beauty…

Sincere thanks to those of you who supported our Kickstarter campaign to fund our documentary film HOPE, Resilience in the face of poverty, war and Ebola. View our Trailer. Though the campaign was not funded, we will find a way to complete this film as our human family voices in Liberia must be heard by the world.

Please watch for more Letters from Liberia soon…  with great love and appreciation for you and your support,

“Faith is our assurance that there is a Divine plan of infinite love at work even in the most challenging moments, and that we are a part of that plan.  Faith gives us the confidence to move ahead with vast visions in the face of enormous odds; it is an invitation to work in active partnership with the Divine in service of a better world.” - Women, Spirituality and Transformative Leadership
